Dan Green
Pastor
I moved to Virginia with my family around 1988 where I finished up my high school years. I was working at a sign shop in Hampton and met a man who befriended me, his name was Bill. He was friendly, kind and sincere. I was going through some rough waters in my life, and he took a genuine concern for me. He shared how he had met Jesus, and that I could know Jesus too.
Bill knew something then that I did not, that though there are many problems in life, there is one solution, and that is Christ Jesus! We became buddies and I enjoyed our friendship. He possessed something in his life that I wanted in my life. I didn’t know it but the love of God was reeling me in!
One day Bill asked me if I had ever been “born again.” I had heard the phrase before, but it was not very familiar to me and I had never heard it in my religious upbringing. I pictured an old man on a street corner with a sign reading “The world’s ending tomorrow, be born again!” He showed me in the Bible where Jesus said you must be born again to enter the heaven and have eternal life with Him. I replied that I didn’t know what it meant to be born again, but if that’s what was required to have what he had…joy, peace, forgiveness, and really knowing God, I wanted to be born again. Not long after, I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior right at work. I called on Jesus to save me, forgive me, and make me new! The Heavenly Fisherman landed the catch! Praise God, thank you Jesus!”
John 8:31-32 “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”
